Mock Interview and Preparations
Mock Interview and Preparations
Preparations:
1) Tell me about yourself.
My name is Bruno Singer, I'm 18 years old. I'm a huge football fan and as a hobby, I made an Instagram account dedicated to the club that I support (Benfica). I talk about anything that is going on at the club such as, transfers, match days, signings etc. I consider this hobby as some sort of an experience so I can be ready when writing an article because I know there will be a lot of writing involved in sports journalism. I consider myself very shy and timid person when comes to meeting new people or avoiding eye-contact when talking because I'm that shy and I wish that I could improve myself so I can interact with people and be a bit more talkative to people as much as possible.
2) What are your strengths and weaknesses?
My strengths are team work skills and researching skills because my hobby revolves around researching reliable information and post it on social media. At times research can be difficult because I have been in a situation where I couldn't find the information because either the article hasn't been published or the source isn't reliable, as I am trying my best to get reliable information for my audience as false information will do more bad. For team work skills, I have worked with people in college when we had projects together like filming video or taking pictures and I work really well with other people as some times I do give my suggestions of what we should do etc. As for my weaknesses, I would say that my communication skills needs to be improved because I do consider myself shy and timid person and I want to feel confident when speaking to people.
3) Why do you want to work here?
I would consider to work for the Channel 4 because they have a training scheme for journalists and I want pursue a career in journalism. Channel 4 themselves said that they are committed to training their employees and take them to the highest level of employment and education. I expressed before that I want to join a place where they take education of their students or employees very seriously and because of that, they have some of my best interests.
4) Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
I see myself being a sports journalist and I'm still undecided of what organisation I want to join. Both BBC and ITV are great options but I would rather join BBC than ITV because they have plenty of articles football and sport in general plus thousands of people read them and I have to say that their articles are well written and well informative. Like I said before, I want to show to everyone that I have the skills and knowledge about the sport and BBC for me, is the place to show my skills and knowledge of the sport etc.
5) Describe a time where you were required to work in a team.
The times where I worked as a team were in college as my course is media. In these group projects, we filmed and make print adverts, most of the times were filming. We filmed videos about climate change, short film and print adverts and the instances where we were filming a short film, I would either film or give my opinions of what we should and should not do etc.
My Mock Interview:
I started with my mock interview a bit nervous, which is normal and happens to everyone in general. The very first question was for me to tell little bit about myself and I said that I like football and I'm very shy and timid person when I talk to people also, I don't keep eye-contact with people because as I said I'm very shy and timid person. I also told in the interview that I have an Instagram account that is dedicated to the club that I support (Benfica) and I have a following about more than 700 followers and I explained that I do this as a hobby and get bit of experience to get the feel of other journalists that have social media accounts dedicated to football in general. Next question was about my strengths and weaknesses, I said that my main strength is researching skills because my career path is sports journalism and researching skills will be a must skill to have as a journalist. I told in the interview that I always research before I post it on my account and the one thing that I didn't mentioned is that I always mention the source in every post so my audience can know that I got the information that is trustworthy and not something that made up. Then I said that I would consider working for Channel 4 because they have a training scheme that helps their employees to achieve higher level education and achieve their dreams of any career choice and I like this because I want a organisation to have the belief and confidence on their employees or students to achieve big things in the future, another thing that I forgot to mention in the mock interview.
The next question was where do I see myself in 5 years and I see myself as a sports journalist but I can't which company or organisation I would work for but I would like to work for the BBC as this better option in my opinion because BBC has plenty articles on football and it is read by thousands of people and also it is an opportunity for me to show my capabilities to everyone that is reading one of my articles. The last question was for me to describe a time where I worked in a team and I answered it by saying that I have worked in a team in college during media projects like filming and making print adverts and during these projects, I would on rare occasions give suggestions of what we should and should not do etc. Overall I think my mock interview went all right, not the best but still a lot to improve; the few things that I would change is not stuttering when answering questions and prepare myself a bit when going to an interview like staying a bit calmer and research about the business or company that I'm applying for.
